I received a complimentary copy of Abigail and the Big Start Over from The Good Book company for my honest review. All opinions are 100% my own.
Abigail and the Big Start Over by Bethany McIlrath is a really fun story about a 9-year-old little girl.
Abigail feels like her entire life is starting over when she has to move into a new house and go to a new school.
This is a real down-to-earth story that kids will be able to relate to. I like how we go deep and get into Abigail’s mind. We can really feel her pain and uneasiness with the events going on around her.
I like how the author has incorporated biblical concepts into the story that Abigail is trying to learn and apply to her life in the various circumstances that she finds herself in. I think that Abigail sets a good example to her readers in this way.
This is a good size book for a child to read. It’s a soft cover and has 207 pages. The illustrations inside are interesting and they are in black and white. They are interspersed throughout the story, not just at the chapter beginnings. They go along with the story well and kids will enjoy looking at them.
This is a book that I would have loved when I was in the late elementary and middle school grades, so I highly recommend this book to any child of that age group. This would make a great gift to any child or family and would also be a nice addition to a church library as a youth, Christian fiction.
About the Author
Bethany McIlrath loves to get lost in a book and to help others discover their next read in her marketing role at The Good Book Company. When she’s not reading stories, she’s usually writing them or dreaming about them as she comes up with real-life creative adventures for friends, her husband, and a doorbell-like dog named Indy. Serving in children’s ministry is also one of her greatest joys.
