The sun hasn’t risen yet, but your husband’s alarm clock awakens both of you.
Your husband leaves for work with a quick kiss, an “I love you” and maybe even an “I’ll call you later”.
You both go through your day. His busy job schedule keeps him from having time to call, and taking care of the kids, homeschooling and housework just doesn’t leave time for even a short text from you.
As the day goes on, supper is prepared and your husband walks in the door, puts down his lunchbox, and continues his phone conversation with his boss.
When he’s able to finally hang up, the kids have forgotten their welcome, and you’ve gotten busy into another task that needs tended to.
You know you have to be cheerful, so as best you can, a polite, “Hi, Hon. How you doing?” comes out.
You already know his answer. It’s the same one every day. “Tired.”
Family time is important, so the family sits together and eats. The conversation is nice and uneventful. After supper, you ask the kids to help with clean-up and a few chores.
Your husband is a good man, and he dutifully goes outside to fix a problem that a friend has asked him to look at.
When the problem is sufficiently handled for the evening, you hear him come in and head to the shower. You quickly catch his attention and politely ask him if he got the problem fixed.
You’re hoping for a “yep, all done” reply, but you get the all-to-familiar, “I had to order the parts. They should be delivered tomorrow and I’ll put them in tomorrow night”.
Hmm. You think about the weekly schedule. Okay, if he’s going to be busy with that, then I guess I won’t ask about a date night for the two of us.
The rest of the short evening is filled with each of you having your own to-do list to get ready for the next day, taking care of the kids, and trying your best to get a six-hour night of sleep.
Everybody’s marriage falls into a routine.
Routines aren’t bad unless it’s a routine you don’t like.
Routines aren’t bad unless it’s keeping you from getting results that you want and need.
If your marriage has fallen into a dull routine and you want it changed, then I would suggest this book. The Flirtation Experiment.
The authors are two Christian women, Lisa Jacobson and Phylicia Masonheimer.
Phylicia has been married for seven years, and Lisa close to thirty. Each woman has children, and their happy marriages became routine too.
It wasn’t until Phylicia just happened to step out of her comfort zone and did one very small thing that she saw an immediate response from her husband.
Phylicia wondered how her husband would react if she did some other simple things, and here is where the Flirtation Experiment was born!
In this book, Phylicia and Lisa share with us real stories and ideas that will encourage you to light that spark in your routine of marriage and be intentionally flirtatious.
Their use of Scripture provides the foundation that wives need to become encouraged, empowered and courageously proactive to pursue their husbands romantically.
