When my children were young I loved reading Bible stories to them. They enjoyed them, and I knew that I was introducing God’s Word to them for their benefit.
Unfortunately, I did not have a great Bible storybook like Carl Laferton’s God’s Big Promises Bible Storybook. Things would have been so much easier, but I thank God for what we did have at that time.
Mr. Laferton’s Bible storybook seems to draw you to it. The hard cover is so bright and colorful. The character people look so pleasant and happy.
Every page has drawings on it from Jennifer Davison. There’s no overwhelming amount of text to read on each page, which is perfect for little people with short attention spans.
I’ve read almost the entire 409 pages, which makes up the 92 Bible stories. I’ve only found one place where a word was missing but it wasn’t hard to keep the story moving along. Mr. Laferton does not use the word idol in this book. There is either God or not-gods, which is a really good idea.
The text is mostly narration but there is a little bit of conversation between people at times in the stories. It is all easy to understand, but I was surprised that Mr. Laferton used the word “defeated” in the text. I just picture myself reading this book to a two or three year old and I don’t think they are going to understand what that means.
The gospel message is given throughout the book. Jesus’ death, burial, and resurrection story is in place, as well as people like Paul or Peter that share the good news about Jesus to others who then believe and get baptized.
God’s Big Promises Bible Storybook is specifically designed to highlight the promises that God has made, and the promises that God has kept. Special icons on the page edge gives you a quick view of the promise category that Mr. Laferton has designated.
Through the Bible storybook you can follow Promise Pathways to see the details on God’s Big Promises.
At the beginning of the book, there are lists of page numbers that you can read in order to follow a particular Promise Pathway that interests you. There’s a few different categories or choices you can choose from:
- The Rescue Path
- The People Path
- The Land Path
- The Joy Path
- The King Path
- The One Big Story in 20 Stories Path
My Recommendation About God’s Big Promises Bible Storybook
I would highly recommend this book to any family with young children. It’s easy to read, colorful and engaging to look at, and of course it is based off of God’s Word. This Bible Storybook will help your child learn about God starting at an early age.
I also recommend having this book available in any young children’s Sunday school room, children’s church classroom, homeschool, and/or church nursery.
